Optimist Open at Parkstone Yacht Club

The annual Parkstone Optimist Open Meeting 2024 took place two weekends ago, featuring a weekend of winds at either extreme. Day 1 brought light winds and shifting conditions, while Day 2 saw strong winds and thrilling races that kept both sailors and spectators engaged.

Main Fleet

Day 1 started with a marginal 5 knots of breeze that favored those who chose the right side of the course. Newcomer Theo Fox secured the win, with Jonny Rogers and Rufus De La Haye following closely behind. Day 2 saw heavy winds with local sailor Harry Draper taking the win, followed by Finn Ramus and Eliana Edwards.

Race 2 showcased a battle between Draper and Ramus, with Ramus ultimately securing the win. In Race 3, Max O’Hare from Royal St George Yacht Club claimed first place, solidifying Ramus’ overall victory in the event.

Racing regatta

The fleet completed 6 races on Saturday in light and shifty conditions, with Archie Dowling finishing first. On Sunday, the fleet faced stronger winds, ultimately completing 2 races before the day ended.

Coached regatta

In very light and shifty conditions, 24 boats competed and sailed 8 races. Finley Eyre, Toby Jones, and Dexter Truswell emerged as the top sailors in this fleet, showcasing impressive improvements throughout the day.
