Excitement is building for the upcoming Tollgate Islands Race in the Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore series, set to start on 18 October 2024 at 1900hrs. The 260-nautical mile race will see 26 yachts competing, including Double Handed entries and two Mini Maxis.
The Tollgate Islands, located off the coast of Batemans Bay, will serve as the halfway point rounding mark. The race has seen a mix of performances in the past, showcasing how smaller Double Handed teams can compete with larger yachts. This unpredictability makes for an exciting event where any yacht can come out on top.
The iconic VPLP Verdier 100, Comanche, is returning to the fleet under new charterers James Mayo and Matt Allen. As they prepare for the Rolex Sydney Hobart, the team’s focus is on getting the boat ready and performing well in the race.
The weather forecast indicates strong winds along the Sydney and NSW coastline on Friday, with a shift to southerly winds on Saturday as the fleet progresses towards Batemans Bay. Sunday will see continued southerly breeze on the return leg to Sydney Harbour.
