The Volvo China Coast regatta 2024, hosted by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, showcased exciting ‘Big Boat’ racing from 11-13 October. With ideal sailing conditions throughout the event, a fleet of 31 boats competed in signature Hong Kong autumn weather.
The first day saw 14-15kts easterly breeze for windward/leeward courses before expanding to a 17nm island course for IRC Racer 0. Day 2 featured 18-20kts breeze with demanding windward/leeward courses. The final day brought 15kts north-easterly breeze for more thrilling races.
TP52s dominated IRC Division 0, with Rampage 88 securing first place. Cape 31s also put on a show, with Rampage38 emerging victorious. Witchcraft dominated IRC Racer 2, while Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack claimed victory in IRC Racer 3. Fenice topped the IRC Premier Class, and DBX2 won the PHS division.
The event concluded with a Mount Gay party, celebrating three days of intense racing. The Volvo China Coast regatta once again highlighted Hong Kong’s best sailing conditions, with great competition and social events. See more at chinacoastraceweek.com/news and facebook.com/rhkycCCRW.
