On Day 4 of the Louis Vuitton Cup, Alinghi Red Bull Racing faced Emirates Team New Zealand. Unfortunately, the race couldn’t commence due to issues with their mainsail, causing the Swiss team to arrive late at the start line.
In their second match against favorites Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, Alinghi showed improvement, taking an early lead during some crossings. Although they didn’t earn any points, their enhanced performance indicates they remain a competitive force heading into the next Round Robin stage.
After a series of disappointing results, Day 4 marked a turning point for Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Although disqualified from their first race against New Zealand, the team seized the opportunity to practice sailing alongside the Defender. They exhibited a stronger performance against Italian Challenger Luna Rossa, which suggests that they are regaining their competitive edge as they approach the next half of their Round Robin matches.
The next race for Alinghi Red Bull Racing is scheduled against the Orient Express Racing Team in the opening match of the second Round Robin on Tuesday, 3rd September.
Maxime Bachelin, Helmsman, stated, “Finally being able to start is a good feeling. With the performance of the boat, we know we can compete with the others. We were encouraged to see that when we fell back, we could catch up. The Power Group did an amazing job, so it’s always great to have them supporting us. It was a good race, and we’re happy to be in the mix.”
Paul Jacquot, Cyclor, added, “Crossing the line on time definitely makes racing more enjoyable. But we’re here to win, so that’s the next step, and today was a step in the right direction. We need to start winning races.”
Silvio Arrivabene, Co-General Manager, remarked, “Today we got our ducks in a row, and we had a good start against probably the strongest team in the fleet at the moment. I’m really proud of the guys, and it’s a way of breaking free from the difficult three days we’ve had. Our mission in this regatta is to beat whoever we need to beat to advance to the next stage, and we are focused on achieving that as we head into the upcoming races.”
