Results of West Lancashire Yacht Club’s 24-Hour Dinghy Race Winners Announced

West Lancashire Yacht Club recently announced the winners of the 53rd 24-Hour Dinghy Race, which took place on the weekend of September 21-22, 2024. Budworth sailing Club emerged victorious after 24 hours of non-stop sailing on Southport’s Marine Lake. The event showcased top sailing talent from across the UK, with Budworth A boat clinching the top spot, followed closely by South Staffordshire SC and Looe SC.

The return of the race to Southport after a five-year hiatus marked a new era of collaboration among sailing clubs. The event would not have been possible without the efforts of competitors, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to its success. The race brought together a mix of competitive spirit, camaraderie, and love for sailing, culminating in a thrilling finish.

The race’s return is a positive development for Southport, adding a cherished tradition back to the town’s event calendar. Mayor of Sefton Councillor June Burns expressed delight at the race’s comeback and congratulated Budworth SC on their win. The event also raised funds for WLYC’s sailing development program, aimed at expanding access to sailing for young people.

Next year’s event is set for September 13-14, 2025, with entry now open. The collaboration among clubs in hosting this year’s race sets a positive tone for future editions, promising a fun and sustainable event. Sailors and spectators are encouraged to mark their calendars for another unforgettable race at Southport’s Marine Lake.

Full results, including information on next year’s race and online entry details, can be found on the WLYC website.
