The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is sharing its lifesaving knowledge to mark International Disaster Risk Reduction Day. On October 13th, the UN promotes global risk-awareness and disaster reduction. A Q&A session with DisasterReady and the RNLI will focus on understanding drowning prevention, particularly in flood safety.
As the risk of drowning increases during floods, the RNLI is raising awareness to improve safety for those at risk. With a focus on flood safety, the RNLI is collaborating with DisasterReady to provide valuable information and resources.
The organizations have developed an international flood safety course and a Flood and Water Safety Video to educate people on planning for floods, managing hazards, and basic rescue skills. These resources have reached over 2000 people in more than 100 countries.
Flood disasters are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change, putting 1 in 3 people globally at risk of being affected by a disaster. The RNLI works globally to prevent drowning-related deaths and improve safety measures.
Through technical resources and free online courses, the RNLI shares its knowledge with other lifesaving organizations to save more lives. DisasterReady and the RNLI hosted a Q&A session on YouTube to discuss managing risks during flood situations.
