The countdown to the 79th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is on, with only 99 days until the iconic event on 26 December 2024. A total of 75 yachts have already registered, representing a mix of seasoned campaigners and first-time entrants from various states across Australia.

Some of the biggest and fastest yachts in the world are set to compete in this year’s race, including a strong fleet of Maxis and Mini-Maxis vying for Line Honours. Last year’s winner, LawConnect, is back to defend its title against contenders like Comanche and the luxury cruiser Maritimo 100.

The global appeal of the race is evident with international entrants from countries like the USA, New Zealand, France, and Hong Kong. Several entrants are taking on the challenge of Double Handed sailing, with 16 two-person teams in the mix.

The oldest yacht in the fleet is Katwinchar, built in 1904 and now competing in the Double Handed category. With anticipation building for the race, this year’s fleet promises to be one of the most competitive and exciting in recent history.
