Rossko Racer Wins Despite Aiolos Crossing First

The Bosphorus Cup 2024 witnessed a fierce competition on day one, with the Volvo Ocean 70 Aiolos setting a blistering pace and securing line honours. Helmed by Greek businessman George Procopiou, Aiolos was supported by an international crew, including Greece’s recent Olympic medallists, Pavlos Kagialis and Panagiotis Mantis.

Another Greek contender, Stratis Andreatis’ 86-footer Meliti, made a bold move at the start and led the pack in the 96-boat race. However, on corrected time, it was the smaller boats that emerged victorious. Timofey Zhbankov’s JPK 11.80 Rossko Racer claimed victory by a narrow margin, followed closely by Selim Kakish’s Archambault 35 Nissan Zacapa and Güney Kaptan’s J/111 Akpa Chemicals II.

The competition continues with the upcoming Bosphorus Race, where sailors will navigate the iconic Istanbul Strait. With moderate breeze forecasted, the event promises an exhilarating race track for competitors and a breathtaking spectacle for spectators along the shores of Istanbul.
