RS Aero open meeting and UK Masters Championships 2024 at Salcombe YC
The Salcombe RS Aero Open also served as the RS Aero UK Masters Champs this year with seven RS Aero visitors testing their skills in the challenging tidal ria valley of Salcombe.
Race 1 presented a tricky start with light breeze against the incoming tide, leading to strategic decisions on the course. Nick Craig took an early lead but rounded the first mark the wrong way. Peter Barton claimed the first win in the RS Aero 7s, followed by Chris Jones in second.
In race 2, the breeze picked up nicely with Nick Craig taking the lead and extending it to victory. The RS Aero 7s kept pace with the RS Aero 9s, with Chris Jones finishing second.
Following a fun evening dinner at Salcombe Yacht Club, strong winds on Sunday forced the cancellation of all races. Despite this, three RS Aeros headed out for an exhilarating sail in challenging conditions.
With no discard series, the Masters dominated the top three spots, with Chris Jones securing the win. The next event for the RS Aeros in the UK is the RS Aero UK Inland Championship at Draycote Water SC on 19/20th October.
Overall Results:
1st – Chris Jones (RS AERO 7)
