The Solo class Thames Valley Series at Island Barn Reservoir sailing Club took place on October 5th, welcoming 16 competitors for a day of competitive sailing. The ideal autumn conditions included clear skies and a steady south-easterly breeze, providing a near-perfect setting for the races.
Race officer Gareth Griffiths set challenging courses for the day’s races, with tight competition in each race. After a delicious lunch provided by volunteers, the afternoon races continued with more excitement on the water.
Ian Matthews from Spinnaker sailing Club emerged as the overall winner, narrowly beating Simon Denham from Littleton sailing Club. Dave Bull from Upper Thames Sailing Club secured third place overall. The best performing Island Barn sailor was Mike Jones, showcasing strong competition against the visiting clubs.
The day concluded with a traditional cream tea during the prize-giving ceremony, emphasizing the successful and enjoyable aspect of the racing at Island Barn.
