The mast of the Maxi broke above the J3 forestay, leading to a five-day delivery trip back to Lorient. Despite efforts to repair the mast, the timeline for a new spar would have impacted future plans, including the Jules Verne Trophy attempt.
Constructed with 170,000 hours of work, the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild made her mark in the offshore racing world, achieving impressive victories with her flying capabilities. The decision to focus on the future and the forthcoming launch of Gitana 18 led to the conclusion of Gitana 17’s journey.
