Thessaloniki Yachts Baximus and Astrapi Triumph at Aegean Regatta 2024
The sailing boats Baximus, skippered by Thanasis Baxevanis from the club “Omilos Filon Thalassis,” and Astrapi, with skipper Vassilis Kapitanidis from the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, emerged victorious in the ORC Performance and ORC Sport categories at the Aegean Regatta 2024.
The final act of this prestigious international sailing race unfolded in Rhodes, where competitors raced in a series of coastal sailing events. The Aegean Regatta was organized by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy in collaboration with the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation.
In the ORC Performance category, the race turned into an absolute thriller. After the results of the two final races, Baximus, Vorras, and Sugar each ended up with 12 points. However, the sailing boat Baximus claimed victory based on its superior performance in previous legs of the regatta.
In the ORC Sport category, the sailing boat Astrapi showcased remarkable stability, securing first place and outpacing competitors Meliploe and Mousmoulo.
The Closing Ceremony took place at the Rhodes Marina, where winners were awarded prizes. Erifilli Vardaki, the President of the Hellenic Offshore Committee of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the successful organization of the regatta.
“I want to thank the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy, and namely General Secretary Manolis Koutoulakis, for co-organizing the Aegean Regatta. I also extend my thanks to the Region of the South Aegean for their financial support, the Port Authority of Rhodes, the Municipalities of the islands where the Aegean Regatta had a stopover, and the Nautical Clubs that helped make this event a success. A special thanks goes to the ‘Maria Tsakos’ Public Benefit Foundation for providing the boat Mania, which hosted the members of the committees. I would also like to acknowledge all the volunteers from the race committee for their excellent service and all participating crews. Finally, I invite all sailors to join us next year for another exciting adventure in the Aegean Sea,” said Ms. Vardaki.
