Triumphs and Advancements: A Chronology of Victories and Innovations
VPLP Design has a rich history of victories and innovations in the Vendée Globe. The collaboration between VPLP and Guillaume Verdier has produced successful IMOCA designs over the years. In 2008, Safran marked the firm’s entry into the IMOCA class with a light and powerful design. The 2012 edition saw Macif clinch victory, showcasing the advancements in power and design.
The 2016 Vendée Globe introduced foils, a game-changer in IMOCA racing. VPLP/Verdier designs took the top two spots, solidifying the success of this innovation. In 2020, foilers dominated the race, but it was a 2016 design, Maître Coq IV, that emerged as the winner.
Looking ahead to the 2024 Vendée Globe, VPLP Design continues to innovate. Learnings from past races have led to new hull designs and foils aimed at enhancing performance in challenging conditions. Malizia-Seaexplorer, skippered by Boris Herrmann, is equipped with these advancements and has shown promising results in recent races.
