UniCredit Youth America’s Cup Day 2: Athena Pathway Signs Off

Athena Pathway, a British team supported by Cobham-Ultra in the Unicredit Youth America’s Cup, secured second place in both races on Day 2 of the Qualification Series. The team is aiming to defend the trophy, which was last won by GBR in 2017.

The first race on Wednesday experienced a delayed start due to issues faced by NYYC American Magic and Orient Express Racing Team. This left Athena Pathway (GBR), Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli (ITA), Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL), and Alinghi Red Bull Racing (SUI) to compete in the two fleet races.

In the first race, Athena Pathway started strong but was overtaken by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. The race was closely contested, with Emirates Team New Zealand leading at one point. Ultimately, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli claimed victory, with Athena Pathway finishing in second place.

In the second race, Athena Pathway made a comeback from the back of the fleet to secure second place behind Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. Co-Helm James Grummett expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and emphasized the learning experience throughout the competition.

With two second-place finishes, Athena Pathway moved up to second place on the Group A leaderboard. The competition features 12 Youth Teams divided into two groups, with the top three teams from each group advancing to the Final Series.
