The 65-metre sailing yacht Aquarius II has completed outfitting at Royal Huisman‘s shipyard and is now ready to be transported to Amsterdam for the final stages of construction. This project, commissioned by an experienced yachtsman as a successor to his smaller 56-metre Aquarius, reunites the original design and build team of Dykstra Naval Architects, Mark Whiteley, and Royal Huisman.

Erik Wassen of Dykstra Naval Architects highlighted the unique challenges of building large sailing yachts, especially in terms of mast height restrictions. However, the owner’s willingness to forgo crossing the Panama Canal allowed for increased sail area, with the mast height raised to 67.5 meters.

The owner’s brief called for an increase in length with additional volume to accommodate a fourth guest cabin, gym, and a redesigned owner’s cabin. Aquarius II will feature two masts, a lifting fin keel, and over 4,500 square meters of downwind sail area for enhanced performance.

To ensure optimal performance, Rondal and Doyle collaborated with Royal Huisman on sail and mast design. The yacht will also incorporate semi-hybrid power generation, climate control improvements, and optimized rudder shape for better helm control.

The aesthetic differences of Aquarius II include a lower forestay, a unique mast ratio, and a redesigned deck house. Overall, the yacht aims to maintain the responsiveness of its predecessor while enhancing performance on the water.
