SailGP has announced a major upgrade to its F50 fleet, with new T-Foils set to be introduced in January 2025. CEO Russell Coutts described this development as a “game changer”, promising faster speeds and more competitive racing. Testing of the new foils has already yielded impressive results, with the Canada SailGP Team reaching record-breaking speeds during training.

The T-Foils, made from titanium and carbon, will replace the current L-Foils and are designed to reduce drag at high speeds. Coutts believes these foils will provide teams with greater control and performance, particularly in upwind sailing. The upgrade is expected to level the playing field for all teams, creating an exciting season with potential for surprise results.

Safety was a key consideration in the design of the T-Foils, with features to improve control and performance while minimizing damage in high-impact situations. The upcoming SailGP season will also see the introduction of new light-wind foils, enhancing performance in challenging conditions.

The 2025 SailGP season will feature events across five continents, starting in Dubai and including stops in iconic locations such as Rio de Janeiro, New York, and Sydney. The addition of new teams and the introduction of advanced foiling technology promise an action-packed and competitive season ahead.
